Is your child suffering from a broken or damaged tooth that is unsightly or uncomfortable? At Enchanted Forest Pediatric Dentistry, we offer pain-free kids’ tooth removal in The Woodlands, TX. If your child has a tooth that has been broken or otherwise seriously damaged in a fall or an accident, it may need to be removed. Quickly removing the affected tooth will prevent additional problems and greatly reduce the chance of infection.
Children’s tooth removal can be performed for a single tooth or several at once. Our experienced staff administers a local anesthetic to numb the affected area and simplify the procedure. This means your child feels some pressure during the extraction, but no pain. We tell them to let us know if they feel any pain or pinching sensations. For the extraction of multiple teeth, a general anesthetic may be used.
To recover fully from a tooth extraction, keep your child’s head propped up with pillows and do not let them lie down flat. Don’t allow them to drink through a straw or rinse their mouth vigorously for at least 24 hours. For the first few days of recovery, we encourage young patients to eat soft foods, such as pudding and yogurt.
A pulpotomy, or pulpectomy, is the complete or partial removal of nerve tissue inside an infected tooth. This is typically done when the tissue has been compromised by bacteria from a deep cavity or injury. We place a soothing medication inside the tooth after removing the damaged pulp before doing the final restoration.
